How it all began
In 2015, Björn and a few bicycle enthusiasts put their heads together for the first time to consider how they could come closer to their vision of a city worth living in for people and nature. Driven by the idea that more must be possible with cargo bikes than just blasting Critical Mass with ever-larger sound systems, they quickly founded the tricargo Radlogistik Hamburg GmbH in 2016.
They start with a purchased e-cargo bike and produce a transport box for it themselves. The purchased tricycle does not withstand everyday stresses, so the engineers make technical improvements at various points. Due to many customer requests, three more bikes are procured and further technically upgraded. However, the results achieved are not satisfactory, so the team soon develops the first in-house designs.
From the very beginning, it was clear that the work should also be designed to be socially sustainable. Tolerant and respectful behavior, consensus, cooperation and open communication are values that are firmly rooted in tricargo. Based on the conviction that a sustainable future can only be achieved through the active participation of many different people, the tricargo cooperative was founded in 2018. Since then, the product development of the transport bikes has been the core business of tricargo eG.
After building four prototypes, many deployments in cycle logistics and subsequent optimizations, in 2020 the first fully developed, practical and reliable transport bike is now available in the home hall in Hamburg Altona.

Where we are now
Since then, we have set up series production and distribution structures and added features such as a parking brake, indicators and a practical weather protection to the Lademeister. We already have partnerships with seven cargo bike dealers and are working to add many more. The customer base of cycle logistics has expanded and we maintain many stable partnerships there.
Our business areas also include the maintenance and repair of transport bicycles, advertising and promotional services, the rental business and advice on sustainable logistics.
In addition, we are a founding member of the German Cycle Logistics Association with the tricargo cooperative, where we are involved at the political level in promoting a sustainable turnaround in logistics and transport.

Where we want to go
Towards a successful transportation transition!
We are convinced that most companies will only transform their urban logistics if a perfectly functioning alternative to vans is available to them. With our Lademeister, we offer a mature product that helps these companies to be future-proof.
In 2025, we plan to found the tricargo Transportradbau GmbH as a further subsidiary of the cooperative. This strengthens our financial position, enabling us to distribute our Lademeister in large numbers throughout Europe.
We are constantly working to make all areas of our business even more resource-efficient. Together, we are creating a trusting work environment in which all employees can have a say and contribute their full potential to our mission. We are convinced that in this way we can achieve the best possible results for ourselves, our partners and for the city's climate.
